Hewlett-Packard remains tops in global PC sales, although sales decreased 6.4% in the fourth quarter compared with the year before, a decline that surpassed IDC's prediction. HP shipped 15 million computers and held 16.7% market share for the quarter. Lenovo ranked second with a 15.7% share and 14.1 million PCs shipped. CNET

- Internet companies should give users more control over data, EU says
Lawmakers in the EU want Facebook, Google and other Internet companies to give their users greater control over how their personal data is used, this article notes. "Users must be informed about what happens with their data," said Jan Philipp Albrecht, a member of the European Parliament. - Indian proposal puts onus for cybersecurity awareness on OEMs
Hardware manufacturers doing business in India are lashing out at a government proposal that would require every piece of hardware destined for sale in that country to come prepackaged with a cybersecurity informational brochure before it could clear customs. The plan, which some have compared to requiring warning labels on packages of cigarettes, would be logistically challenging to implement and ignores better ways to raise awareness, hardware manufacturers say.
