- ACC: FDA's scientific review supports the safe use of BPA
The Food and Drug Administration's decision to reject a ban on the use of bisphenol A for food-packaging applications is the "right call" for a chemical that has been exhaustively tested and found safe for food contact, writes Steven Hentges, head of the Polycarbonate/BPA Global Group at the American Chemistry Council. "The FDA has committed to an ambitious program of high-quality studies in its own laboratory to continue to examine BPA. And, to date, the results are very encouraging. It's clear that the FDA has followed the right course and will continue to use science as its compass to protect public health," he writes. Milwaukee Journal Sentinel (tiered subscription model)

- How to innovate like Socrates
Corporate innovators could learn a thing or two from Socrates, says former Hewlett-Packard executive Phil McKinney in this book excerpt. The Socratic method required people to accept their ignorance to uncover deeper truths, McKinney explains. "It's the same in the idea-generation process; the first step to freeing yourself to find innovations is to recognize that the knowledge you currently have is insufficient, and that you need to go out and discover new information," he writes.
