  • Supercomputers could lessen patients' participation in clinical trials
Technology could reduce the costs and expensive errors related to clinical trial design as the employment of supercomputers become prevalent, says Dr. Michael Smith, staff physician, clinician and community liaison with Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based Life Extension. Smith also noted that supercomputers using a clinical trial-simulating platform can determine whether a trial should be done or not. He added that scientists creating these innovations believe that supercomputers can perform trials in a virtual environment in the future. • PHR tool could lessen medication discrepancies, study says
The use of a personal health record medication review tool that is connected to providers' medical records could harmonize documented and patient-reported drug regimens and lessen potentially dangerous medication discrepancies, according to a study in the online version of the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. "This technology shows promise, and further studies should be conducted integrating this kind of tool into other EHR platforms and evaluating its effects on medication safety," the researchers wrote.
