- Liberty Global will pay $16 billion for Virgin Media
U.K. pay-TV and Internet provider Virgin Media is being acquired by John Malone's Liberty Global for $16 billion. The deal, which is part of Liberty Global's push into European markets, could set up a bigger rivalry with British Sky Broadcasting, which is partly owned by News Corp. and is the U.K.'s top pay-TV provider. - Panel debates the changing world of content delivery
Content still rules the world, but how it's delivered will continue to evolve because of the DVR and emerging digital platforms, according to a panel of media executives at an industry event in West Hollywood, Calif. However, it's important to note that digital media and Hollywood have different business models, said FX Networks President John Landgraf. "Amazon and Google operate on low [profit] margins but are based on [high] volume," he said. "In Hollywood, we operate based more on margin than volume. If you have the sense we should get religion and just care about volume, you don't understand the content business." The Hollywood Reporter
