  • Samsung is making time for a smart wristwatch
    Samsung Electronics expects to compete with Apple for wearable devices, as the South Korean manufacturer said it has long planned to introduce a smart wristwatch that will mirror many smartphone functions. "We've been preparing the watch product for so long," Executive Vice President Lee Young Hee said. Lee declined to provide other details about the watch, which presumably would compete against a similar product reportedly in development at Apple.     Microsoft says it will offer mobile versions of its Dynamics AX enterprise-resource-planning software. The mobile applications will be part of the next AX 2012 update and focus on worker functionality as well as providing time- and expense-management features. The company also says it plans to offer a mobile app in the Dynamics customer-relationship-management line during the second half of 2013.   • "Chameleon" botnet is behind click fraud, ad-analytics firm says
    A botnet dubbed "Chameleon" has infected about 120,000 home computers in the U.S. and is generating bogus clicks on about 200 websites, according to Spider.io, an advertising analytics firm in the U.K. The company estimates the purported fraud costs advertisers up to $6 million a month. "All the bot browsers report themselves as being Internet Explorer 9.0 running on Windows 7," Spider.io said in a blog post.   • Feds investigate potential bribery by Microsoft, partners
    The Justice Department and the Securities and Exchange Commission are looking into whether Microsoft and any of its partners were involved in alleged bribery and kickback activity regarding software deals made abroad.
