FERC enforces order on smart-grid infrastructure
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has begun enforcement of Order 1000, requiring grid operators to engage in regional planning for new power transmission lines, this analysis notes. The order lets independent developers compete with existing utilities in putting up such lines. Global smart meter shipments grew by nearly 20% in the second quarter, topping out at approximately 18 million units, according to Pike Research. TI unveils development platform for smart meter boards
Smart meters can be developed using a new board platform from Texas Instruments, which says the platform can support one-phase to three-phase smart meters.
