  • JP Morgan suggests acquisition of Hawker Beechcraft still possible
    In a December report, JP Morgan suggested that acquisition of Hawker Beechcraft might still be possible, and that Embraer, Textron or General Dynamics could benefit from the deal. "We anticipate that other companies may be interested in acquiring Beechcraft if the price is right as we see a good strategic fit in several cases," the report said.     Falcon Field in Mesa, Ariz., is set to undergo $3 million in lighting and ramp upgrades to increase safety at the airport.   • Potential GPS backup system tested at missile range in N.M.
    The U.S. Air Force and Australian Locata Corp. have signed a contract to place LocataNet positioning services in a 2,500-square-mile section of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. The technology works as a local positioning signal hot spot and could serve as a backup to global positioning signals. If the project is successful, the technology could be released for civil use.   • UAV privacy legislation introduced in House
    Rep. Ed Markey, D-Mass., introduced the Drone Aircraft Privacy and Transparency Act this week to address privacy concerns related to the use of unmanned aerial vehicles for surveillance. Among other regulations, the new law would require unmanned aircraft operators to provide information on the type, use and storage of data their UAVs will collect, and the Federal Aviation Administration would be required to maintain a public website listing the times and locations of UAV flights.
