- New service offers mobile remittances in Indonesia
Mobile-based remittances are now available to consumers in Indonesia from a partnership of mobile phone operator PT XL Axiata, Western Union and mini market chain Alfamart. "This service will aid those working overseas, especially in Malaysia and Saudi Arabia, in sending money to their relatives in a fast, safe and easy way," Dian Siswarini, XL director for technology, content and new business, said at the launch of the service. With a service much like Africa's hugely successful M-Pesa, India's Aircel subscribers will soon be able to transfer money, pay bills and withdraw cash via mobile. - As Android surges in Hong Kong, ad spend follows
With Android at 62% now commanding twice the market share of Apple iOS in the Hong Kong smartphone market, ad spending for Android campaigns increased 378% last year, according to AMAZE Mobile Media. The "iPhone got a head start in the beginning when the smartphone market first started, so Android lost a bit there.
