  • Survey: Consumer-directed health plans are increasing as HMOs drop

Higher-deductible consumer-directed plans, however, were provided by 58% of employers in the survey last year, compared with 41% in 2010. "Employers are beginning to explore innovative solutions that focus on both the short-term need to manage health care costs and the longer-term requirement to change underlying behavior patterns, shifting the focus from 'caring for the sick' to 'actively managing the health of their employees,'" Aon Hewitt's Maureen Fay said in a statement.
