- Program to ease hassles of renting planes is on the horizon
A new concept in how pilots rent airplanes is expected to be rolled out by the end of the year, and it has received support from the aviation industry. Through a network of operators, OpenAirplane aims to streamline the rental process. Any pilot who has passed a check ride at one operator could rent similar equipment at another without extra paperwork, flight checks or even insurance. AVweb

- The value of business aviation
Savvy companies around the world realize that having their own plane allowing executives to compress long hours wasted on commercial air travel into short, intensely productive work time is a key to their success. A study by NEXA Advisors has found that, over a five-year period, S&P 500 "companies that used business aircraft had twice the total shareholder return of companies that did not," Mark Patiky writes. - Tired of traffic? Try flying
Sick of sitting in Los Angeles' traffic, blogger Anna Jones caught a plane to work. Strapped into a "Cessna 152, aptly named 'the Commuter,' " with pilot Michael Gold, she discovers it's a lot more feasible than people think. "The average economy car getting 25 miles per gallon uses 16 gallons of gas to travel 400 miles. In a Cessna 152 going about 110 mph, that trip would take 21 gallons. Not bad," she writes. L.A.
