A medical educator is advocating that surgeons use clementines as a training aid for laparoscopic surgery. The peel, pith and segments of a citrus fruit bear remarkable similarities to the kinds of tissues encountered in many surgeries, and doctors say it's better to practice procedures on the fruit than on patients. "You can find clementines or satsumas or tangerine variations all over the world," says Pamela Andreatta of the University of Michigan Medical School.
