Experts see improvements with bypass liner in diabetes
Moderately obese type 2 diabetes patients who used a duodenal-jejunal bypass liner attained significant reductions in fasting plasma glucose and A1C levels and body weight at 52 weeks, a study in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism indicated. Study: Hyperglycemia, obesity connected to poor cognitive test results
Healthy middle-aged adults in the highest quartile of BMI were more likely than those in the lowest quartile to perform poorly in cognitive tests, a study in Diabetes Care found. Drugs show efficacy in patients with type 2 diabetes, ESRD
Sitagliptin therapy led to a 0.72% reduction in mean A1C levels at 54 weeks, while glipizide treatment resulted in an 0.87% decrease among type 2 diabetes patients with end-stage renal disease who require dialysis, according to a study in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases. Researchers also found the incidence rates of symptomatic hypoglycemia were 6.3% in the sitagliptin group and 10.8% in the glipizide group. Renal and Urology News (1/30)

Obesity gene shows greater impact on young adults' BMI

Study: Cravings can be nibbled away
Participants who ate larger portions of chocolate and other snack foods consumed 77% more calories compared with those who had smaller portions, a study in Food, Quality and Preference revealed.
