- Next Generation Science Standards draft due out by year's end

An educator at a school in the United Kingdom says a program in which students complete one-page profiles about themselves, with input from family and friends, has been so successful that they have expanded it to all grade levels. In the profiles, students answer three questions about what others like and admire about them, what is important to them and what support they need. - Mixed-grade classrooms in Maine charter school support inclusion
Cornville Regional Charter School in Cornville, Maine, uses a multiple-grade classroom model that teachers say helps keep students with disabilities in inclusive settings. "I think the charter school does a really good job accommodating individual needs," teacher Barbara Averill said. The University of North Texas plans to publish videos on its website intended to highlight effective teaching and demonstrate best practices for educators. The university has filmed examples of excellence in teaching at Texas' Amarillo Area Center for Advanced Learning. "If you hang around the good crowd, you pick up those qualities. A school board in New York state is expected today to consider changes to its policy on homework that would encourage students to receive about 10 minutes of homework each night multiplied by their grade level.
