    Pernod Ricard and denim designer Loren Cronk have teamed up to introduce Absolut Denim vodka, a limited-edition bottle encased in a denim gift sleeve that can keep the bottle cold for up to two hours. Absolut Denim will be launched in travel retail through a multi-media marketing campaign that includes QR codes that allow consumers to look at cocktail recipes.   • Calif. brewing company to start hand-bottling beer
    California-based Strand Brewing will release its craft brews in 500-milliliter bottles at Whole Foods and other retailers in a few weeks. The company's 24th Street Pale Ale, Atticus IPA, Beach House Amber Ale and Second Sleep Imperial Stout will be the first brews available in the bottles, which founder Richard Marcello said he prefers to 22-ounce "bombers" because they contain enough to share but not too much to finish alone.     A 2012 Rabobank report predicting "increasing convergence of soft drinks and dairy beverages" is coming true as Coca-Cola teams with Select Milk Producers on Core Power high-protein milkshakes and PepsiCo works with Theo Muller. Mintel analyst Caroline Roux said most launches of dairy-based soft drinks are in Asia, "but the number doubled in Europe between 2011 and 2012."   • N.Y. state assembly to expand bottle bill
    New Yorkers will have to pay a 5-cent deposit when they buy sports drinks, energy drinks and fruit juices with less than 70% natural juice as the Assembly moves to expand the state's bottle bill. The expanded law is expected to raise $5 million per year for the Environmental Protection Fund, and already applies to beer, carbonated soft drinks, mineral water, carbonated energy drinks and carbonated fruit juice.   • Dr Pepper taps Baswood for wastewater pre-treatment
    Dr Pepper Snapple Group has installed a wastewater pre-treatment system from Baswood Corp. at its facility in Houston to reduce "both cost and our impact on the environment and public resources," said Kendall Yorn, vice president of manufacturing and engineering. By using the BioViper system, Dr Pepper Snapple Group puts less of a burden on the city's wastewater treatment system. The company is considering rolling out the system to sites in other cities.
