  • Moody's downgrades Nokia to junk status
    Moody's cited cellphone-maker Nokia's deteriorating fiscal condition in lowering its bond rating to junk status. On Thursday, Nokia's chief financial officer, Timo Ihamuotila, said the company might sell off a chunk of its large patent portfolio "at the right price" to raise cash, although he added that Nokia would retain a sizable trove of patents.     The federal judge overseeing the patent battle between Apple and Motorola has reversed course and will let Apple argue next week that the court should issue a permanent injunction against its rival for patent infringement.   • Karma plans pay-as-you-go mobile hot spots for all
    Karma will leverage Clearwire's WiMAX network to offer an open 4G on-demand mobile hot spot service that will cost users $14 per gigabyte once they buy the startup's $69 hardware. The system turns the user's hot spot into a public Wi-Fi network, offering free data to the original hot spot user for each user who signs on. "We want to give everyone a mobile, 4G hotspot that lives in their pocket. It's open to everyone, and lets you pay as you go.
