Revised plans for Apple's Calif. HQ to delay completion until 2016
Completion of the new Apple headquarters in Cupertino, Calif., could be pushed back to mid-2016 because of recently filed revisions for the design of its underground parking garage. Building a reinforced concrete project underground costs about $62.60 per square foot, according to Reed Construction Data, and the revisions indicate reducing the number of underground slots will result in cost savings. Ohio seeks team to design, build, finance Cleveland bridge
The search has begun for a group to design, build and fund construction of the eastbound Innerbelt Bridge in Cleveland. The project, which will cost approximately $330 million, includes demolition of the current bridge. It's the first time the state has pursued a design-build-finance approach for a large transportation project, according to this piece. 4 crawler cranes to erect steel at Calif.'s $1.2B stadium
Construction of the San Francisco 49ers' new stadium will use four Liebherr LR 1300 crawler cranes, which will work simultaneously to erect a total of 14,000 pieces of steel over the next five months. The $1.2 billion stadium is being built by Turner Construction and Devcon Construction, and is expected to be finished in time for the National Football League’s 2014 season. Chemistry's role in reducing building emissions
Improvements in insulation and roof coatings can achieve as much as a 70% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from buildings in North America, Europe and Japan, according to the International Council of Chemical Associations. "Between now and 2050, you could save about 600 million tons of CO₂ equivalent a year.
