  • Thin placenta may double future risk of sudden cardiac death
    Researchers looked at records of more than 13,000 Finnish men and women and found that those born to mothers with the thinnest placentas faced a twofold higher risk of experiencing sudden cardiac death later in life.   • Study: Glargine does not raise cancer risk in diabetes
    Patients with type 2 diabetes who were on insulin glargine treatment were not at an increased risk of cancer compared with their counterparts on other basal insulin therapy, according to a French study in Diabetes Care. Data on more than 70,000 patients showed the cancer rate for glargine users was 1,622 per 100,000 person-years, while those who used other basal insulin had a cancer rate of 1,643 per 100,000 person-years.   • Yogurt is linked to reduced risk of hypertension
    A Tufts University study found people who ate a total of one serving of yogurt every three days were 31% less likely to develop high blood pressure, compared with people who did not eat yogurt. Researchers said the protection was higher among people who were not taking drugs to control blood pressure. The findings were presented at an American Heart Association meeting.   • Prenatal sleep apnea may pose health risks for mothers, babies
    Babies of obese women with obstructive sleep apnea during pregnancy had a greater risk of admission to the neonatal intensive care unit, according to a study in the journal Obstetrics & Gynecology. Researchers also noted that the rates of preeclampsia and cesarean delivery were higher in women with sleep apnea compared with those without the condition.
