  • California charges sales tax on shipping & handling
    Online retailers now collect sales tax on purchases by consumers in California, a tab that many may not realize includes a tax on shipping and handling when the charges are combined into one fee. The law says the fees are taxable unless the goods are carried by a trucking company or the U.S. Postal Service, the fee for shipping is listed separately and it doesn't exceed the actual cost of delivering the package.
