  • Firebase makes app development "a matter of minutes"
Firebase, which provides developers with a backend in real time, shortening development time to "a matter of minutes," has been released to the public, Christina Farr writes. Co-founder James Tamplin grew the platform out of the chat service, Envolve, realizing that the real-time infrastructure would help his fellow developers. "The end goal of the product is to help developers build amazing experiences they wouldn't have otherwise be able to build -- and even bring novices that just started programming into the fold," he says. "There's so much more that we could do with brands," Rovio's Michelle Tobin says. The new division will concentrate on brand integration in the "Angry Birds" franchise, with a McDonald's partnership in China as a potential model, Tobin said. • Twitter touts API with new metadata
Twitter says its application programming interface will add metadata for language translation and a streaming-only API mechanism for determining what tweets should be considered "high value," Matthew Panzarino writes. "It's unclear whether Twitter's own apps will begin using the filter metadata to only display tweets of a higher 'filter level', but it seems tailor-made for the Discover tab at least," he writes. Separately, Crashlytics says it's offering enterprise-level features for free to all users following its acquisition by Twitter. • Leanplum launches platform to test native mobile game apps
Leanplum's platform for games should help small native mobile application developers perform A/B testing, writes Dean Takahashi. "We rethought the way analytics should be done. ... Once you design a test, you can instantly preview it before it goes live. Just select the customer segments and regions to target. Your changes will be pushed to your users on the fly. No additional coding. No recompiling," says co-founder Momchil Kyurkchiev. VentureBeat (2/13) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
