Delta is adding new destinations, facility upgrades at LAX
Delta Air Lines' senior vice president of network planning, Bob Cortelyou, talked to USA Today about competition at Los Angeles International Airport and the carrier's plans to add eight destinations and up to 17 flights at the airport by July. "That's why we're upgrading our product and doing quite a bit of service enhancements there. In order for us to enhance that and be competitive, we have to be focused on the product," Cortelyou said. American Airlines Chairman and CEO Tom Horton announced that Beverly Goulet has been promoted to senior vice president and chief integration officer. Airlines release February traffic reports
Three major carriers reported a drop in February traffic. FAA furlough notices were premature, lawmakers say
In a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, top Republican lawmakers on the House and Senate transportation committees called furlough notices issued to Federal Aviation Administration employees "premature." The lawmakers also say their request for more information has been ignored and want to know why. "We are disappointed that this is the route that the FAA and the Administration has chosen to take, rather than sharpening their pencils and finding cost savings in other areas," wrote Sen. No conclusions have been reached yet on 787 Dreamliner
An interim National Transportation Safety Board report did not reach any conclusions on the cause of 787 battery issues. However, the agency announced that it will hold two hearings in April to examine the use of lithium-ion batteries in aircraft. USA Today (3/7)

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., plans to introduce legislation to allow passengers to use personal electronic devices during all phases of flight.
