  • EU penalizes Microsoft for dropping browser-choice option
    The European Commission has imposed a $731 million fine on Microsoft for dropping a browser-choice feature from Windows 7, which made Internet Explorer the default browser for European users. "We take full responsibility for the technical error that caused this problem and have apologized for it," a Microsoft spokesman said. Tony Woodgate of Simmons & Simmons says the fine is a sign that the EU "will not tolerate failure by a company to comply with the commitments it gave to settle an antitrust infringement procedure."   • Tumblr adds mobile ads, says it expects a profit
    Tumblr says it expects to turn a profit for the first time this year after expanding its advertising service to include mobile ads.
