  • Climbing foreign demand in Hawaii limits options for U.S. tourists
Hawaii continues to enjoy rising visitor arrivals and tourist spending, mostly as a result of a rebound in demand from international markets. Hoteliers and travel agents say the influx of foreign visitors is beginning to limit U.S. tourists' booking options. "Our occupancy [percentage] has been in the mid-to-high 90s for August, September, October and November. We've just seen a really large increase in overall demand to Hawaii, and a lot of that's been from international markets rather than domestic," said Kelly Sanders, general manager at the Sheraton Waikiki. • Analysts: Companies to invest more than $1.5B in Las Vegas market

We do see growth, albeit nominal growth in the 2 percent to 4 percent range," said Gabe Telles, commercial real estate consultant with the Colliers group. • Source: Hakkasan club is backed by Middle East billionaire
The Hakkasan nightclub in Las Vegas' MGM Grand has delayed its opening until early spring. The club has signed several DJs in multimillion-dollar deals, and industry professionals are wondering how the venture is obtaining the money to cover the construction and contracts. "The Hakkasan venture is bankrolled and backed by a mega-wealthy Middle East billionaire. He was a regular high roller at another luxurious Las Vegas nightspot but became disgruntled when he was turned down for a specific table that he wanted one night. He said he was disrespected; he said he'd open his own place to teach them a lesson," one source says. Las Vegas Sun (12/24) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
