- RIM may consider partnering on BlackBerry 10 software
Research In Motion CEO Thorsten Heins told a German newspaper that the company might try to license its BlackBerry 10 operating system by entering into strategic alliances with other companies. "The main thing for now is to successfully introduce BlackBerry 10. Then we'll see," Heins said. The company also announced Sunday that it would change the name of its application market to "BlackBerry World" from "App World" and put a greater focus on music and video content. Reuters

- Google: Passwords are passé
The era of user passwords for computers or websites may be coming to an end, as Google is developing technology that would embed passwords in a physical device. "Along with many in the industry, we feel passwords and simple bearer tokens such as cookies are no longer sufficient to keep users safe," Google's Eric Grosse and Mayank Upadhyay wrote in a white paper. They add, "It's time to give up on elaborate password rules and look for something better." ITWorld.com/IDG News Service

- U.S. apparently presses EU to relax data-privacy rules
The U.S. government is urging the EU to be more "flexible" about its data-protection regulations, which are under consideration in the European Parliament, according to a document obtained by the rights group EDRi. The EU proposals should be "revised to ensure that security and commerce are not adversely affected," the document states. TechCrunch
