- "Fiscal cliff" bill creates LTC commission, cuts CO-OP loan funds
The "fiscal cliff" bill that cleared Congress this week includes a provision for the creation of a Commission on Long-Term Care, which is designed to include representatives from the insurance industry as well as other stakeholders. The panel is tasked with making recommendations on quality and care coordination. The bill also cuts 90% of Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan loan funds not yet committed. - Mass. offers tax credits for employee wellness programs
Massachusetts kicked off the new year by offering businesses tax credits for up to 25% of the cost of creating an employee wellness program, up to $10,000 per year. Marina Lebo of Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness said the programs can be as simple as holding a lunch-time exercise program but over the long-term could keep people healthier and reduce insurance costs.
