  • PE firm will pay more than $2B to buy, merge Lightower and Sidera
    Boston-based private-equity firm Berkshire Partners has signed a deal to purchase Lightower Fiber Networks and Sidera Networks for more than $2 billion and plans to merge the two companies, operating them under the Lightower name. Lightower CEO Rob Shanahan will head up the combined company. "Even though we compete in similar markets, there was less network overlap than either of us thought.   • Cisco forms new group for service providers
    Cisco Systems' new business unit, the Service Provider Software and Applications Group, will combine its BroadHop and Cariden Technologies acquisitions.
