  • Hoteliers' focus on short term is affecting service quality, execs say
    Hotel leaders speaking during a session at the Cornell Hospitality Research Summit in Ithaca, N.Y., this week noted the lodging industry's shift toward a short-term mentality, sacrificing service quality for improved earnings. "I think managers today are much more preoccupied with driving [net operating income] and [earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization] than they are in driving guest satisfaction," said Ted Teng, president and CEO of The Leading Hotels of the World. This trend is highlighted by results of J.D. Power and Associates' most recent hotel-guest satisfaction survey, which showed total guest satisfaction falling to its lowest point in seven years.
