  • Cable, rivals lobby FCC over program-access rule
    The National Cable and Telecommunications Association was among the groups meeting with the Federal Communications Commission over the past 10 days about the future of the program-access rule's prohibition on exclusive contracts between pay-TV operators and their co-owned channels, filings show. The NCTA is pushing for the end of the ban on Oct. 5, because of the "robust and irreversible competition that characterizes today's video marketplace." Other groups and companies, including Verizon, AT&T, Public Knowledge, DIRECTV and DISH, want the prohibition to be completely or partially kept, at least for sports networks and other "non-replicable" content.
