- GE turbines exceeding expectations at Indian wind farm
General Electric provided 26 megawatts of wind turbines to a wind project developed by Bhoruka Power in the Indian state of Karnataka. The turbines, which were made at GE's factory in Pune, India, have been performing better than expected, GE said. Bloomberg

- Poll: Most Americans believe clean energy should be a priority
Most Americans believe promoting clean-energy development and addressing climate change should be priorities for President Barack Obama and Congress, according to a survey conducted by researchers from Yale University and George Mason University. About 78% of Americans surveyed said the U.S. should increase reliance on renewable energy, while 73% said they favor government spending for research into renewable energy sources, the survey showed. - Bode: Wind power was strong winner in U.S. elections
Wind energy was an unofficial winner in the U.S. elections, said American Wind Energy Association CEO Denise Bode on the opening day of the AWEA Wind Energy Fall Symposium in Chandler, Ariz. Eighty-eight percent of candidates who support the wind-energy Production Tax Credit won seats in the House of Representatives, while 86% of PTC-supporting Senate candidates won in their races, Bode said. "Virtually every candidate who was good on wind either won re-election or was replaced by somebody who is good on wind," said OwnEnergy founder and CEO Jacob Susman. Greentech Media

- Alaska lawmaker suggests gradual phaseout of PTC
Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, a ranking member of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, said a one-year extension of the wind-energy Production Tax Credit would ease the transition to a plan for a gradual phaseout of the tax incentive. The stop-and-start nature of the PTC "doesn't make sense" because it doesn't provide "some level of certainty" to investors, said Murkowski. "So what we need to look at critically is if we're going to have a production tax credit for wind, maybe you've got to schedule that for five years, say. It's in place but then it phases out slowly," Murkowski said. The Hill/E2 Wire blog

Multiyear PTC extension, gradual phaseout discussed among lawmakers: Calls for a multiyear extension followed by a planned phaseout of the wind-energy Production Tax Credit are gaining traction in Congress because they would give the industry policy stability. A "multiyear extension would be more effective for manufacturers" to account for a length of time needed to plan and execute projects, according to a letter sent to Congress by the bipartisan Governors' Wind Energy Coalition. Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, said he likes the idea and would support a gradual winding down of the tax incentive of about 20% per year. North American Windpower online

- Opinion: Saving PTC will help Congress tackle two issues
Extending the wind-energy Production Tax Credit would allow Congress to stave off job losses in the wind-energy supply chain while improving its sagging public image, according to the editorial board of The Denver Post. "Even if you wanted to argue with the economic wisdom of the wind-energy tax credit -- as some Republicans do -- you can't deny that its absence would undermine a growing industry at a time of high unemployment," the editorial states. | One thing I am convinced more and more is true and that is this: The only way to be truly happy is to make others happy. When you realize that and take advantage of the fact, everything is made perfect."
