Brazil's Embraer anticipates that China will purchase 15% of 61- to 120-seat aircraft by 2031. The manufacturer also expects that Chinese demand will lead to the sale of 650 business aircraft, worth $24 billion, by 2022. Reuters (11/13) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • Banks express concerns about Fed's Basel III plan

  • Foreign investment boosts Chinese stock market, experts say
China's yuan-denominated A-share stock market is likely to benefit from the government's encouragement of participation by foreign investors, experts say. • U.K. inflation surprises on upside, reducing stimulus chance
U.K. consumer inflation increased more than expected last month, to an annualized 2.7%, compared with 2.2% in September, further lowering prospects that the Bank of England will consider more stimulus in the near term. Looking ahead, "utility-bill increases are on their way. We've also got the effect of the U.S. drought and increased food prices to factor in," Scotiabank economist Alan Clarke said. "I don't think we're going to get anything like the 2% inflation target." Reuters (11/13) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  • Small businesses fear being sold out in "fiscal cliff" talks
Lobbyists for small and midsize businesses say they fear policy that might come out of President Barack Obama's "fiscal cliff" discussions with corporate giants such as General Electric, Honeywell International and IBM. Small-business advocates are worried that executives of major corporations will press for policy that benefits their organizations but leaves smaller companies exposed to tax increases. • Regulators examine nontraditional metrics in earnings reports
Securities regulators are targeting nontraditional metrics that companies are using in their financial reports, such as "paid membership rates," "active users" or "cumulative customers." The Securities and Exchange Commission's Division of Corporation Finance wants to make sure such metrics are clearly linked to a company's results. The SEC also is concerned about how the metrics are presented in the reports. The Wall Street Journal (11/13) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
