Energy officials in California are devising plans to mitigate potential energy shortages this summer if Southern California Edison's San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station remains offline for maintenance. - Airlines seek new tools to handle growing data
Airlines are looking to harness growing amounts of aircraft, maintenance and passenger data to improve reliability and reduce costs, a demand that is fueling the creation of new data management systems from IT vendors. New database management platforms such as SAP's Hana seek to integrate large amounts of numerical performance data with written, unstructured data from pilots and mechanics in real time. In its first-ever survey of green goods and services jobs, the Labor Department found that 2.4% of America's total employment in 2010 -- or 3.1 million jobs -- were green jobs.
