Medtech cybersecurity bill introduced in House
A bill that would create a public-private stakeholder partnership among the FDA, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, academia and the medtech industry to establish cybersecurity guidelines and standards for medical devices was introduced in the House of Representatives. Zach Rothstein, associate vice president of technology and regulatory affairs at AdvaMed, said cybersecurity threat management is a shared responsibility, and "having stakeholders work together on these important issues will continue to build on the collaborative work that has already been accomplished."

CDC: PCV13 introduction led to reduced pneumococcal disease prevalence
CDC researchers found that overall incidence of invasive pneumococcal disease dropped after the introduction of the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine in 2010, with the rates of IPD tied to vaccine serotypes and IPD for all serotypes among children decreasing by 87% and 61%, respectively, from 2007 to 2016. However, the findings, presented at IDWeek 2017, showed that incidence declines have leveled off, and there was "no measurable early impact" associated with recommendations issued in 2014 that called for seniors to be vaccinated.
