  • Study shows healthiest, least-healthy counties in each state
    Researchers at the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation analyzed county-based data to create a list of the healthiest and least-healthy counties in each state. They said least-healthy counties had higher mortality rates, more than 20% of children living in poverty, and higher rates of smoking and physical inactivity.   • Report: 500 biggest U.S. chains hit 5-year sales high
    The top 500 restaurant chains booked a 4.9% increase in sales last year, the biggest jump since the before the recession hit in 2007, according to Technomic. While results varied widely from chain to chain, sales at the top 10 eateries rose 22% over 2011, with Dickey's Pit Barbecue, Firehouse Subs and Jersey Mike's Subs topping the list of fastest-growing chains.   • Lawmakers propose labeling bill for pizza brands
    Representatives Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Wash., and Loretta Sanchez, D-Calif., introduced a bill this week aimed at making it easier for pizza restaurants to comply with menu labeling rules. The bill would allow eateries that get most of their business from take-out and delivery to post calorie counts on remote access menus, let pizza places post counts by the slice and give restaurants more flexibility to account for the wide variety of topping combinations.
