  • Study looks at human metapneumovirus in hospitalized children
Hospital records from three U.S. counties from 2003 to 2009 showed that 6% of 3,490 hospitalized children had human metapneumovirus and 7% of 3,001 pediatric emergency department visits were linked to the virus. Investigators assembled experts to assess postsurgical events that should raise concern and narrowed the list to 12 that most of the experts could agree on. More than 16% of patients who have colon surgery end up back in the hospital within 30 days. Two reasons cited to seek emergency care were chest pain and an inability to breathe or shortness of breath. HealthLeaders Media (2/11) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
