Chemical manufacturers seeking to improve safety culture must go beyond technology-driven improvements, writes Ramabhadran Srinivasan, a process-safety and risk-management leader at DuPont Sustainable Solutions. "To understand risk potential and the importance of constant vigilance, chemical manufacturers must develop a learning culture. - ACI: Calif. regulations would be "unclear," burdensome
The proposed Safer Consumer Products regulation in California is drawing opposition from industry organizations, including the American Cleaning Institute. The measure would, among other provisions, greatly expand the list of chemicals requiring evaluation from manufacturers. According to an ACI statement, the regulations are "unclear, would cause confusion in the marketplace, place heavy burdens on business and provide little benefit to consumers." - Study: Antimicrobial soap, ointment lowers infection spread
According to a study, hospitals that used antimicrobial soap and ointment on patients in intensive care units lowered methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus by 37% and blood-based pathogens by 44%. "Until this trial, there has been debate about whether bathing with antibacterial soap and using nose ointment prevent infections in these high-risk settings," said lead researcher Dr. Susan S.
