- Group releases recommendations for better post-discharge care
The American Medical Association has released five patient safety principles for transitioning patients from inpatient to outpatient care. "[P]atients leaving the hospital too often return to ambulatory care settings that are not well connected to the hospital team and this can result in inefficient, confusing and sometimes unsafe conditions," the report's authors wrote. Evaluating patient health, setting goals, supporting self-management and managing medications were among the responsibilities outlined in the report. HealthLeaders Media

- Biennial mammograms for older women backed by large study
The risk of having breast cancer detected at a late stage was no higher for older women who received mammograms every two years rather than annually, according to a study of more than 140,000 women ages 66 to 89. Annual mammograms were associated with an increased risk of false positives. The study appeared online in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute. WebMD/HealthDay News

- Analysis: Stress at work not tied to increased cancer risk
A meta-analysis of 12 studies involving 116,000 17- to 70-year-olds found that job stress was not significantly associated with higher odds of developing breast, colorectal, lung or prostate cancers. Finnish scientists said that research that has shown a link between work stress and cancer could have done so by chance or because of factors not involving work stress. The findings appear in the journal BMJ. HealthDay News
