- Growing shortage of hand specialists seen in Tenn. study
A study of hospitals in Tennessee found that 7% have hand specialists on call around-the-clock and 18% offer occasional hand specialist call coverage. Potential solutions include encouraging more surgeons to pursue a hand subspecialty, boosting compensation, creating an integrated residency and developing call schedules that serve multiple hospitals.
