NRF is fighting a proposed $7.25 billion settlement, a deal Shay says is bad for retailers, consumers and competition. Retail's BIG Blog (9/12) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  • Survey: Retailers slowly grow spending on mobile
Retailers took a cautious approach when it came to spending on mobile initiatives last year, and while they plan to spend 300% more on tablets this year, 60% say they're not yet clear on the objectives of their mobile initiatives, according to a Shop.org and Forrester Research survey. “It’s easy to forget that mobile retailing is still in its infancy, and unlike what we saw with e-commerce 10 short years ago, mobile is almost entirely consumer-driven,” says Shop.org executive director Vicki Cantrell. • Survey finds retailers spent cautiously on mobile optimization in 2011
Shop.org and Forrester’s 2012 “The State of Retailing Online” survey found that while mobile retailing is a priority for retail executives, many favored a conservative approach. Half of retailers spent less than $100,000 on smartphone technology in 2011, and another 74% spent the same on tablet initiatives. “As mobile grows, so too will retailers’ investments in technologies that make sense for their shopper, but to get to that level of commitment, retailers must first take smart, calculated steps to maximize the mobile shopping experience now and in the future,” Shop.org Executive Director Vicki Cantrell said.
