  • States work overtime to ensure exchanges will have buyers
States establishing their own health insurance exchanges under the Affordable Care Act are turning their attention to the challenge of spreading the word, particularly to young people -- whose participation is needed for the concept to work -- and those who opposed the law. Washington state data illustrate the challenge: Officials there want to enroll 410,000 people in the exchange's first two years, but just 1 in 6 residents have heard of the marketplace. Education about insurance is key to reaching the uninsured, while innovation is needed for connecting with young adults. Politico (Washington, D.C.) (1/10) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • 4 senators seek better prevention of Medicare waste, fraud
Four senators -- Orrin Hatch, R-Utah; Max Baucus, D-Mont.; Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; and Tom Carper, D-Del. -- raised concerns about efforts to prevent waste and fraud in Medicare Part D and Part C. An HHS inspector general's report found the Medicare Drug Integrity Contractor, which works with the prescription drug program and Medicare Advantage, has done little to identify fraud and waste. Baucus said results are needed because "budgets are tight and we can't afford to lose taxpayer dollars." The Hill/Floor Action Blog (1/11) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
