- Judge declines to clear Galaxy Tab ban despite verdict
Samsung Electronics was unable to persuade a federal judge to lift her ban on sales of its Galaxy 10.1 tablet, even though a jury recently cleared the South Korean firm of infringing on Apple's design when it developed the tablet. Judge Lucy Koh said it would be premature to lift the injunction given the verdict was under appeal, but she did issue a special order that might spur the higher court to return the matter to her jurisdiction. - Time Warner Cable will dispose of 7.8% Clearwire stake
Time Warner Cable will shed its 7.8% investment in wireless broadband provider Clearwire, the cable company disclosed in a government filing. "It seems like an opportune time to start to sell the shares in light of the company's arrangements with Verizon Wireless," said a Time Warner Cable spokesman. referring to the company's cross-marketing arrangement with the carrier. - FCC sets bidders to vie for $300 million Connect America pot
Federal regulators have identified the 52 bidders who will be eligible to bid for a slice of the $300 million pie up for auction. The Sept. 27 auction is designed to bring 3G or 4G wireless coverage to unserved areas as part of the Connect America Mobility Fund. The bidders will include T-Mobile USA, U.S. Cellular and several smaller carriers. Telecompetitor.com

- Vodafone may set aside $2.2 billion for Indian tax claim
Vodafone Group may reverse course and put aside $2.2 billion as a provision to cover the Indian government's tax claim against the wireless provider, Chief Financial Officer Andy Halford said, adding that the carrier was reacting to a new wrinkle in the country's tax code that could be applied retroactively. - Intel may add Android to tablets with Atom processor
Tablet makers who want to deploy Intel's new Atom chip may have the option of building Android devices as well as those based on Microsoft's Windows 8 platform, Intel said Monday, reversing earlier statements in which the company said that the "Clover Trail" processor had been built solely with Windows software in mind. Also, Motorola Mobility today introduced the Razr i smartphone for Europe and Latin America that will run on Intel chips rather than Qualcomm's Snapdragon, the first device shipped as part of the phone maker's new agreement with Intel. - Apple rivals set plans to combat new iPhone
LG Electronics will ship its new Optimus G flagship phone to global markets in October following a launch next week in its home country, South Korea. The 4.7-inch Android device will carry a Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor and support near-field communication and 4G networks. Samsung Electronics will reportedly unveil a 5-inch Galaxy S4 handset at an industry event in February, while HTC is preparing a 5-inch smartphone of its own, according to an online report. CNET

- Smaller tablets gain on iPad as market surges 56% in 2012
Although Apple's iPad remains the dominant seller among tablet devices, smaller, less-costly 7-inch models are gaining ground and are expected to account for nearly a third of the market by year-end, according to research firm IHS. - First responder net cleared first hurdle at GOP convention
A 4G network designed to deal with public safety emergencies apparently passed its first test at the Republican National Convention last month in Florida after the Federal Communications issued a special waiver for its operation, local authorities said.
