- Navidea announces interim analysis for Phase III Lymphoseek trial
Navidea Biopharmaceuticals said it has gathered a sufficient number of participants in its NEO3-06 Phase III trial to do a pre-planned interim analysis of Lymphoseek in patients with head and neck cancer. The analysis will compare the pathological findings on sentinel lymph nodes identified using Lymphoseek with those of lymph nodes removed in a full nodal dissection surgery of the head and neck. - Bayer-Onyx's Nexavar hits primary goal in thyroid cancer study
Bayer and Onyx Pharmaceuticals' Nexavar, or sorafenib, met the primary goal of a late-stage trial by significantly improving progression-free survival versus a placebo in patients with radioactive iodine therapy-resistant thyroid cancer. Bayer plans to submit Nexavar for regulatory approval as a treatment for radioactive iodine refractory differentiated thyroid cancer. Lexmark International has expanded Perceptive Software, a company it purchased in 2010, through its acquisition of medical imaging software provider Acuo Technologies. - Iran set to develop new radioisotopes
Iranian Atomic Energy Agency Director Fereidoun Abbasi announced the country is set to produce five new radioisotope drugs, according to a report. Abbasi said reactors are working to produce the drugs. - Minn. group aims to reverse changes to 510(k) process
The Minnesota Medical Device Alliance has filed a petition asking the FDA to discontinue certain definitions and administrative measures that the group says unlawfully alter the 510(k) clearance process. - CMS postpones HIPAA operating rules deadline
Enforcement of HIPAA operating rules has been moved to April, according to a CMS Office of E-Health Standards and Services statement. "Industry feedback suggests that HIPAA-covered entities have not reached a threshold whereby a majority of covered entities would be able to be in compliance with operating rules by Jan. 1, 2013," according to the agency. Rep. Mike Thompson, D-Calif., has introduced the Telehealth Promotion Act of 2012 that would boost federal financial support for telemedicine services.
