  • Mass. hospital costing Mo. $15 million a year in Medicare payments
The Missouri Hospital Association said Medicare payments to hospitals in the state have been reduced $15 million a year because of a tiny hospital in Nantucket, Mass. An obscure part of the Affordable Care Act sets a floor for Medicare payments to hospitals in a state based on pay to rural hospitals. Because wealthy Nantucket is considered rural, reimbursements in the state have risen at the expense of hospitals in other states, including Kansas and Nebraska. Midwest states are part of a coalition trying to address the issue. American City Business Journals/Kansas City, Mo. (1/17) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • Mo. hospital patients get prescriptions filled before discharge
The Mobile Pharmacy program at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis is helping patients get their prescriptions filled before they are discharged to reduce noncompliance and readmissions. Staff use a BlackBerry application that lets patients pay their insurance copays at bedside, and prescriptions are delivered to their hospital room within 60 minutes.
