  • Station Casinos reveals sketch of $800M Calif. casino project
Station Casinos has unveiled the design of the $800 million Graton Resort and Casino outside Rohnert Park, Calif. Construction of the casino began in June and workers "are going at lightning speed," said Chris Knerr, business agent for Operative Plasterers and Cement Masons Local 300. "They've had the luxury of good weather and they haven't missed a beat." The casino is slated to open later this year. The Press Democrat (Santa Rosa, Calif.) • 3 green-building standards assessed for GSA facilities
The General Services Administration is evaluating three green-building rating systems to see which one it will follow for construction and upgrades to federal facilities. The agency is looking for public input on the LEED 2009 rating system, the Green Globes system and the Living Building Challenge. The move has raised concerns that this could weaken the influence of LEED on the GSA and prompt it to shift to the Green Globes rating system, which some say is too favorable to certain industries. • How to create your own opportunities
Don't ask for an assignment, or worse, wait for one; simply get started on something that interests you, Erin Palmer writes. "Successful results speak much louder than just insisting you can do the job," she writes. (2/11) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
  • What executives can learn from Pope Benedict XVI quitting
Pope Benedict XVI's resignation is a reminder of just how tough leadership really is, says Nancy F. Koehn, a professor and historian. Neither CEOs nor spiritual leaders are supermen, and it's important that they admit that to themselves. "I don't think this is primarily about age. I think it's really about energy and enthusiasm and a kind of physical, moral, intellectual, and emotional verve -- an appetite," she says. "It's something that every leader is responsible for maintaining and feeding."
