  • Struggling AOL may be a prime private equity target
AOL is an increasingly inviting target for private equity as its stock price continues to slide, analysts say. With its current market value of $1.3 billion, less than half its value a year ago, the company is now the cheapest company, compared with the value of its net assets, of the major U.S. Web firms, according to Bloomberg. "The entirety of AOL is more compelling for private equity today, whether to take it over or buy it and split it up," said Clayton Moran, an analyst with Benchmark Co. • Retailers need to streamline sites for holiday rush
Retailers gearing up for the holiday shopping season -- especially Cyber Monday --- need to focus on site functionality and speed more than aesthetics, Forrester Research advises. Last year, Cyber Monday online sales topped $1 billion, according to comScore, and more traffic is expected this year, particularly through mobile devices. Online retailing in that rush environment "isn't about being pretty; it's about getting your page to load on any browser or device your customer is trying to access it from," says Forrester analyst Sucharita Mulpuru. • Analyst advises marketers to keep content relevant, interactive
Marketers who fail to recognize that the line between marketing and publishing has become increasingly blurred are operating at their own peril. "Interactive marketers must act like interactive publishers," Sean Corcoran, a senior analyst at Forrester, notes in a report. The onus is on marketers, according to the report, to provide fresh content and interactive experiences to consumers across various platforms, including social networks, websites, blogs and applications. • Big agencies face special challenges as client interests change
Digital advertising is transforming the industry and posing particular challenges for big agencies. Advertisers now are more likely to seek out small agencies with a track record in the growing field of new platforms and to prefer the ability to deliver an audience over the ability to create a single compelling message. Clients are also more likely to look for competitive bids from small agencies with lower costs or overseas operations. ClickZ (8/18) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story
