Sanofi introduces iPhone-enabled blood glucose meter
French pharmaceutical firm Sanofi has developed the iBGStar, a new gadget that can read blood glucose levels through an iPhone. Patients can plug the device into their iPhone or iPod touch, use a lancet to prick their finger and hold the sample to the meter for a reading. The Daily Telegraph (Australia)

FCC releases final rule on MBAN wireless spectrum allocation
A final rule allocating wireless spectrum for medical body area networks has been issued by the Federal Communications Commission, with the allocation to begin Oct. 1. The launch of MBAN tools will boost patient care, safety and comfort by lessening the need to physically connect sensors to important monitoring equipment using wires and cables, according to the FCC. FDA introduces tool to crack down on counterfeit products
The FDA has developed a hand-held tool called the Counterfeit Detection Device No. 3, or CD3, to help identify fake products in the field. Experts create prick-free bio-sensor for diabetes
Researchers at Fraunhofer Institute for Microelectronic Circuits and Systems IMS in Germany have developed a bio-sensor designed to measure blood glucose levels using fluids such as tears and sweat and have the data transmitted through a wireless interface to a mobile receiver.
