- Poll: Better health IT use seen in "most wired" hospitals
Data from the Health Care's Most Wired survey showed 93% of hospitals listed as "most wired" use intrusion detection systems to ensure patient privacy and data protection, while 74% use automated patient flow systems, compared with only 77% and 57% of total respondents respectively. When someone has a stroke, making sure he or she gets treatment without delay can mean the difference between life and death, according to Seamus Watson, a public health expert with Britain's National Health System, which has turned to telemedicine solutions such as videoconferencing to ensure patients 24/7 access to specialists. According to Watson, the program -- which pools specialists at area facilities in Kent, Surrey and Sussex -- has managed to cut the average length of a hospital stay for stroke victims in half, from 24 to 12 days. - Company files patent for data exchange technology
DataMotion announced filing a provisional patent for its new technology -- called "Method and Apparatus for Securely Communicating Using Public/Private Keys" -- designed to facilitate communication of personal medical information via e-mail. "Once this technology is in place, any time a physician attempts to send an email using The Direct Project, the message will be securely sent via the existing S/MIME method, regardless of whether or not the recipient is enrolled in the system.
