- Legislators to question VA, Defense on integrated EHR project
A hearing will be conducted by the House Veterans' Affairs Committee on Feb. 27 regarding the decision of the Department of Veterans Affairs and Defense Department to end their plans to create an integrated EHR. - HIMSS to open innovation center in Cleveland
The Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society is set to open the HIMSS Innovation Center in Cleveland in October. - RefleXion uses cloud system to accelerate device development
RefleXion Medical said the use of CliQr's CloudCenter platform allowed it to conduct cancer treatment simulations overnight instead of over the usual two to three weeks. RefleXion is developing a PET-guided radiation-therapy system for tumor treatment. Company officials hope the faster simulations will help it bring the system to market sooner. With the simulations, "we can have a very good sense of how our device is going to perform when it's treating patients," said Akshay Nanduri, RefleXion co-founder and vice president of business development. eWeek

- Physician practices with EHRs shopping around, report says
A report issued by Black Book Rankings found that as many as 17% of physician practices using EHRs are planning to change vendors by the end of the year. "Meaningful use incentives created an artificial market for dozens of immature EHR products," said Black Book managing partner Doug Brown. - Pa. professor designs app for patients with chronic diseases
A mobile application is being developed by Jeremy Dixon, an IT professor at Central Penn College, to assist young adults with chronic medical conditions who are in a state of transition from being under the care of a pediatrician to finding a regular doctor for adults.
