- House bill would shift Pentagon funding
Republican lawmakers in the House on Monday introduced a $982 billion bill to fund the government. The bill would shift $10.4 billion into the operations and maintenance account of the Pentagon by trimming other Department of Defense accounts. "The key is, they are moving the money into the accounts where it's needed, so that DOD will not have to make as drastic as reductions in things like readiness," said Todd Harrison, a budget analyst. - Defense contractors will be affected by cuts, Pentagon says
The Pentagon's budget cuts will hit defense contractors, but the Defense Department has not released details on the cuts. "I can't sit here and tell you you will be unaffected," Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale said, addressing defense contractors in a TV interview. "You will. Sequestration could delay the launch of weather-satellite systems, said experts at a panel discussion hosted last week by the Aerospace Industries Association.
