  • Maryland casinos get go-ahead to operate 24 hours
    The expansion of gambling in Maryland moved a step forward after the state Lottery and Gaming Control Commission gave Maryland Live! Casino the go-ahead to stay open 24 hours a day and the state's two other casinos permission to expand their hours starting Dec. 27. The commission also approved preliminary regulations for table games. "We didn't adopt every change that they wanted.     The Ohio Casino Control Commission has set March 4 as the opening date of the Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati, the state's fourth casino. Matthew Schuler, executive director of the commission, said the casino would most likely conduct a mandatory test run on Feb. 27. The $400 million gaming facility, which will be managed by Caesars Entertainment, will house 116 table games and 2,000 slot machines.     Joe Espy, a lawyer representing the owner of the Victoryland casino in Macon County, Ala., said the gaming facility hopes to reopen by Christmas with more than 1,200 electronic bingo machines. "Until our machines were declared certified and legal, we could not continue to move forward and expend funds. Well, that happened yesterday.     Breon Corcoran, the new chief executive of Betfair, said the company will focus on regulated markets as part of his strategy to cut costs and bring back life to the business.
