- Challenges loom for the managed-services sector
Next year may be challenging for managed-services providers, as the fallout from federal budget cuts could reduce IT spend by $66 billion, according to a CompTIA analysis that also sees bright spots. "The managed services model is becoming more commonly practiced across the channel and generating demand among end users," said Carolyn April, CompTIA's director industry analysis. Next year could be a big year for software-defined networking in data centers, IDC says. Revenue is projected to hit $360 million in 2013 and $3.7 billion by 2016. - Feds plan to take legal route to fight cybercrime
The U.S. government is aiming to arrest and prosecute international cybercriminals and to identify governments that steal intellectual property, and is training dozens of special prosecutors to handle the legal effort. "Whether it is a state-owned enterprise or a state-supported enterprise in China -- if you can figure out and prove that they've committed the crime, charging the company means they can't do business in the U.S., or in Europe," said John Carlin of the Justice Department's national security division.
