  • How to improve your marketing e-mails
Before sending a marketing e-mail, make sure you have selected the right group of recipients, provided a way to unsubscribe and correctly set up the personalization, writes Monika Jansen. Also, include your company's contact information in the message and make sure there's a text version so everyone will be able to read it. "Despite all the incredible advances in browser and mobile technology, some programs and devices just cannot handle HTML versions of emails," Jansen writes. • Feds: States are allowed to scale back Medicaid provider pay
The White House said Monday in a federal appeals court in California that states are allowed to lower Medicaid provider payments to help decrease the program's costs. Some 60 million low-income people are covered under Medicaid, with many more expected to come on board under the Affordable Care Act. The statement may play an important role in the Obama administration's efforts to get states to expand Medicaid. • New PCIP enrollment halted, benefits modified
The federal government halted enrollment in the Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan in 23 states and Washington, D.C., where it administers the program, and the other 27 states have until March 2 to follow suit. "We are implementing a nationwide suspension of enrollment until further notice and therefore direct you, as our contractor, to take immediate steps to implement this suspension," wrote Richard Popper, CMS director of insurance programs. The suspension and benefits changes were prompted by concerns that the Affordable Care Act program's budget was rapidly being spent. (2/25) LinkedInFacebookTwitterEmail this Story

  • Medicare wellness exam, benefits underutilized by seniors
Most seniors do not take advantage of a free wellness exam offered to new Medicare beneficiaries, available during the first year of Medicare coverage. "Government and private studies show that fewer than 10% of beneficiaries are using the welcome to Medicare exam," said Dan Mendelson, the head of Avalere Health. Many seniors also are not aware of all the other free preventive measures and benefits, such as smoking-cessation services, that are covered by Medicare.
